How to read the AI tags

Steam asks developers to separate AI used while making a game from AI that runs while you play. The Atlas follows the same split, then names the specific feature.

Live-generated content
AI creates text, voices, images or events while you play, so no two sessions are the same.
Generative NPC dialogue
Characters answer what you actually type or say instead of picking from a dialogue tree.
AI companions / co-playable characters
An AI that plays alongside you: it perceives the match, plans and acts like a teammate.
AI game master
A model narrates the world and judges outcomes, as a tabletop game master would.
On-device model
The AI runs on your own hardware, which keeps replies fast and works without a cloud round-trip.
Pre-generated AI content
AI helped make art, voices or text during development; the game itself does not generate anything while you play.

AI games, answered

What is an AI game?

An AI game is a video game that uses artificial intelligence as part of how it plays or how it was made. At play time that can mean characters who answer anything you say, AI teammates, or worlds and stories generated on the fly; during development it can mean AI-assisted art, voices or text.

Which AI games can I play for free?

Free AI games on the Atlas include Where Winds Meet, Death by AI, Hidden Door, Façade, AI Dungeon. Filter the database by price on each game page, or search "free".

Which AI models do games use?

Games on the Atlas run on Multiple LLMs, NVIDIA ACE, Proprietary, Rule-based (no LLM), Unknown, Gemini, among others. Many studios combine several models or train their own; each game page names the model where the developer has said which one.

What is the difference between live-generated and pre-generated AI content?

Live-generated content is created by AI while you play, so it changes every session. Pre-generated content was made with AI during development, such as art or voice lines, and is fixed once the game ships. Steam asks developers to disclose both, and the Atlas tags them separately.

How do I add a game that is missing?

Use Submit Game in the top right of every page. Send the title, an official link, the developer and a sentence on how the game uses AI. An editor reviews each submission before it is listed.
